This tends to be a confusing part of headshots in that 'commercial' headshots are more often used for musical theatre auditions, and 'theatrical' are more often used for film and TV auditions. Theatrical being shot more dramatically, more shadow and subtle character context to the look of the actor, whereas commercial has a very bright look both with the subject and background.

Which session you choose dictates the approximate number of 'looks' you should plan on bringing. I do however always suggest that more is better than less or 'just your most favorite shirts' as the colors will look different under the studio lighting and against your skin tone.

Yes, generally that is an option on the #1 and #2 headshot experiences.

If you would like a professional HMUA to do you right for your session, by all means, that can be arranged! I work with a few whose fees currently range from $110-$225, depending on who and when they're available. Let me know at least 2 weeks in advance of your shoot if you would like an HMUA. Their service fee gets added to your final quote through me. Men/ Male Identifying: No. Moisturize your face at most to avoid any dry or flaked skin. Also, do not shave the day of your session unless you are certain your face does not react negatively and would be "healed" prior to your session. Kids: No. I will have a base powder with me to touch up any shine. Women I Female Identifying: The look should be 'Best Average Day'. Wear a natural looking base, concealer, etc. as you would in your day to day. If you do your eyes, lips, etc., do so as you would in your everyday life. Do not paint your face on as you would for the stage. When you walk into a room with the creative team, you should look like you in your headshot, You should not hear comments like "omg, who did your makeup?!?". Again, think natural.

The rule of thumb is there isn't a rule of thumb. Generally speaking if you change your overall appearance, you should update your headshots to reflect your current self. You should also refresh them at least once every two theatrical seasons (18 months give or take) especially if you frequently audition for the same creative teams or theatre comapnies.

I do! And, as a bonus you get a plated 8x10 crop with your name in the lower right corner. So, for each finished headshot you actually get three versions of it. The full frame, the 8x10 crop, and the plated 8x10 crop!
